The children in St I have been examined in all subjects this week. The work of this class progresses very satisfactorily despite the varying degrees of proficiency of the children, many of whom were promoted to St I from the Infant Class I as recently as September and October. Three children have been placed in St I solely on account of age, but their abilities are much behind many of the children of five years. These children will for the next three months spend the morning session with the children in the I Class in the Infant Dept., as it is impossible for them to do any good in St I until they have mastered the elements of reading writing and counting. These boys are:-
1 James Lynes (8 years old) admitted to this school on Dec 14th of 1908 (Can not read, work sums, nor write down very easy words)
2 James Parvia (5 years old last September) admitted Nov 9th (seems deficient in ordinary sense.)
3 John. H. Simpson (8 years old in May) whose education seems to have been much neglected. (Admitted 11.1.09)
