The School draws from three contributory Infant Departments at the age of 8. In addition, a few pupils are transferred at various ages. The annual inflow is approximately 120, which numbers makes organisation somewhat difficult as the classes cannot be arranged in two parallel streams.
The detailed syllabuses which have been drawn up take into consideration the needs of the weaker children. There is room however, for still further differentiation; for in practice the teachers find difficulty in completing the syllabus with their weakest pupils.
All classes devote not less than 300 minutes per week to Arithmetic, and those classes which take the advanced course allot to this subject an even more generous allowance of time.
The teaching of English is conspicuous for the attention paid to neatness and care in written exercises. More opportunity should be provided for the children to express themselves freely and confidently in speech. There is a shortage of reading material in the lower (continued overleaf)
