…unaccompanied evacuee children arrived from London. They had meals in this dept. and slept upstairs. Miss High, Miss Tait and myself were helping until 10 p.m.

Another party of evacuee mothers and children arrived at 8 p.m. on 8th. Miss High and myself were here until 10.15 p.m. I helped all day, 9th, from 8.40am to 9 p.m. I helped today, 10th until 3 p.m.

21 August 1944

School re-oped today for the purpose of 'settling in' the county children, who will not return until Frid. 25th. The outside of the school has been painted. Mrs. Smith & Mrs. [illegible] began duty as supply cook.

School open for the registration of evacuee children who will not return until Frid. 25th

23 August 1944

Staff at school helping with stock etc.

24 August 1944

I was at conference at County Hall discussing 'evacuee' arrangements for education. Ab[illegible]

25 August 1944

Whole school assembled to be told of arrangements for next week.

28 August 1944

School re-opened today. Evacuee children absorbed into classes accordin[g]
