Summer Holiday begins at 11.30pm. School re-opens Monday, August 21st.

21 August 1939 · William Burnham

The school reopened this morning. Owing to illness Mr A. Leach, headmaster, could not be present and I (William Burnham) was instructed by the Director of Education to take charge of the school. Miss Jenny Elizabeth Maule, certificated teacher commenced duty with St IIc, in place of Miss Hall. Mr Mark Hedley commenced temporary duty and was given charge of St. IVb. The number of children on the register was 319, of whom 279 were present.

25 August 1939

Mr Ed. Forster, the attendance officer for Shiremoor district attended to-day, doing duty for Mr Thornton who has been recalled to the army.

28 August 1939

Miss Pauline Friedman reported here this morning for a period of teaching practice.
