Mr. Rowe was not present to-day, having answered a mobilization call.

4 September 1939

The school did not open this morning, but all the staff attended as usual according to the Committee's Instructions to be followed on the outbreak of war
Mr G. Rowe was present. He had been told to return home as he was not required by the army authorities till further notice.

11 September 1939

Instructions, from the Director of Education, were received to-day, saying that the school being in a "neutral area" will not be opened for the attendance of children till the "Protection Shelters" are completed & ready for use, but the teachers should attend each day, though not necessarily all day, in case new instructions may be given.
Mr Hedley's engagement as a supply teacher is regarded as ended.
Miss A. M. P. June, a student, reported for duty as a student teacher, but had to be sent away.
