19 January 1940

The frost has continued all the week and the attendance is 81%.

26 January 1940

Weather still very cold & snowy. (Percentage 76%) Mrs Waite terminated her supply work.

29 January 1940

Miss Jewitt returned to duty.

2 February 1940

Weather has not improved. Attendance only 76.1% 9 children are absent owing to measles. The School Nurse visited school & sent home Margaret Aplin, suffering from scabies & being in a dirty condition.

3 February 1940

Mr. George Richardson (caretaker) left to-day to take up similar duty at Monkseaton. Meter readings { Water 7,284,000 Electric 3183 upstairs 2672 downstairs Gas 16000 Mr. Hepple commenced duty as caretaker.

7 February 1940

The school nurse examined all the children for cleanliness. The gas-masks were inspected. 2 children have lost their masks, and four masks were so damaged as to be useless.
